Replica Peugeot-Michelin jersey and cap, both signed by Eddy Merckx.

Eddy Merckx became a professional rider in 1965 after winning the 1964 amateur road world championships in Sallanches, France. His first team was the Belgian outfit Solo-Superia, but Merckx didn’t get on at all well with the team’s leader, Rik Van Looy and left at the end of 1965 to join Peugeot-BP-Michelin.

He was much happier in that team, winning his first classic, Milan-San Remo, which he went on to win a total of seven times, in 1966, and taking his first professional road world title in 1967.

With his apprenticeship with Peugeot over Merckx formed his own team in 1968, backed by Italian coffee machine manufacturer Faema, and then went on to set records in the sport. Many of which have never been equalled. So this jersey and cap are signed by the greatest cyclist the sport has ever seen, and would grace any study or office wall.
